What about sunscreens?

There are a few skincare tips to live by, and using sunscreen daily is definitely top 2 on the list (after hydration, of course!). When I started using sunscreen religiously, I found that sunscreen clogs my pores, oddly enough especially to water resistant + broad spectrum ones. My skin will just react and have an acne party later-and so I gave up . But after reading more into the importance of sunscreens, I went for a sunscreen hunt. Fast forward 2 years later, these are some of my experience finding the best sunscreen for me, reaction free.

Premature aging? no thank you

UVB is the chief culprit behind sunburn, while UVA rays, which penetrate the skin more deeply, are associated with pre-mature aging: think wrinkles, sagging and dark spots. While you may not see the effects of not wearing sunscreen today, you’ll see it as you age and by then it’ll be too late (and too expensive) to reverse the damage done. Better be safe than sorry!

What is broad spectrum?

A broad spectrum sunscreen protects you from both UVA and UVB, while a normal sunscreen won’t protect you from all UVA rays.

Double cleansing is KEY

They act as a layer of protection and can congest the pores if not removed completely. Sunscreens have the ability to linger on your skin longer and although they fall under skincare, double cleansing is key to not leave any traces on your skin, free your pores and allowing your skin to breathe.

 Different sunscreen for different occasion

They come in many textures and forms, so find what works for your lifestyle. a waterproof ones may not be suitable for daily use, as they are more sticky and lingers on your skin for longer, hence might cause skin congestion.

For daily use, I prefer a light texture yet provides a high protection like this one from alpha h. As for under makeup, the Supergoop’s Unseen sunscreen is perfect as it has that silicone texture which smooths the skin (also act as a primer) and transparent so you won’t get any white cast. Its almost like the Laura Mercier Primer with spf, only this has a higher spf. As for fun in the water (or under water), a water resistant/very water resistant like the Shiseido is perfect for it. Its amazing just how light it is for a water resistant sunscreen.

Don’t want to catch the sun? Use a hat

Pack a hat for your trip to keep the your face from catching the sun directly and to give that extra layer of protection. I find this helpful, especially for after 3 pm when the sun rays are just brutal.
